Background:
Originally from Pittsburgh, PA, Dr. Stephen Liu graduated with honors from Johns Hopkins University and received his medical degree from the University of Maryland. He then completed his internal medicine training at the University of Pennsylvania and fellowship training in hematology and oncology at USC. He is currently an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Medical Oncology with the Solid Tumor Section and an Associate Member of the Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center in the Developmental Therapeutics Program.
Dr. Liu has a clinical focus on lung cancer and head and neck cancers and works closely with surgeons, radiation oncologists and pulmonologists throughout Southern California. In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Liu has an interest in new targeted agents and novel drug combinations. He serves as the principal investigator on several clinical trials evaluating promising new drugs. His research focuses on understanding the molecular drivers of cancer and cancer progression and identifying new options for personalized therapy. He has authored a large number of peer-reviewed articles, book chapters and abstracts in several areas of research.
