Background:

A native of Southern California, Dr. Cologne completed his general surgery training in Chicago at Rush University and Cook County Medical Centers where he received numerous awards including Chief Resident of the Year and Chief Administrative Resident by a vote of his peers. He excelled in laparoscopy and has a certification in the fundamentals of laparoscopic surgery. He developed an interest in colorectal surgery under the mentorship of Dr. Theodore Saclarides. He completed his formal colorectal training under the direction of Dr. Senagore and others at USC. He now specializes in laparoscopic and minimally invasive procedures for a variety of diseases including colon and rectal cancer, polyps, and the treatment and management of anorectal disorders.

Dr. Cologne is board certified in general surgery. He has authored numerous book chapters in colon and rectal as well as general surgery. He also has a number of peer-reviewed publications and several publications pending. He has research interests in surgical education, colon and rectal cancer, diverticulitis, and anorectal disorders. He serves as a peer reviewer for the colorectal section of the Journal of Surgical Oncology and has a particular interest in teaching residents and medical students.
