Background:

Dr. Goldstein received his BA in chemistry from Lafayette College and his MD from the State University of New York-Downstate Medical School. He completed a Nephrology Fellowship at the Los Angeles County + University of Southern California Medical Center.


Dr. Goldstein was the co-founder and serves as the co-director of the USC Pacific Center for Health Policy and Ethics. The Pacific Center is a sponsoring institute of curricular, scholarly and consultative endeavors in bio-ethical and moral dilemmas ranging from the bedside to societal levels. The Pacific Center has administered the medical school's curriculum in medical ethics since 1985. He is also a member of the USC Ambassadors Program, Executive Research Compliance Committee and the Committee for Faculty Tenure and Privileges Appeals for the Keck School and is chairman of the Credentialing Committee of the Los Angeles County+University of Southern California Medical Center.


Dr. Goldstein has served as the associate dean for Curriculum for the Keck School, chief of staff of the Los Angeles County+University of Southern California Healthcare Network, chairman of the Quality Subcommittee of the USC Care Medical Group, as well as the chairman of the Institutional Biosafety Committee of the University of Southern California, charged with protecting animal and human subjects involved in recombinant DNA research. Dr. Goldstein has also served as the president of the National Kidney Foundation of Southern California.


Currently, Dr. Goldstein is the chief of Geriatric, Hospital and General Internal Medicine and vice chair for clinical affairs for the Department of Medicine at the Keck School of Medicine. Dr. Goldstein is board certified in Internal Medicine.
