Background:

Jeffrey A. Hagen, M.D., assistant professor of Surgery, is the Chief of the Thoracic/Foregut Surgery at LAC+USC Medical Center. A board certified General and Thoracic surgeon, his interests focus on benign and malignant diseases of the esophagus and lungs. His clinical and research interests include the treatment of a wide variety of esophageal disorders, with a special emphasis on esophageal cancer, and the treatment of other diseases of the chest including lung cancer, mediastinal and tracheal tumors, and surgical treatment of emphysema. Dr. Hagen earned his undergraduate and medical degrees from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska. While there, he completed a general surgery residency before coming to USC to gain additional expertise in esophageal surgery as a clinical fellow in 1991 under the direction of Dr. Tom DeMeester. He then completed his cardiothoracic surgery residency, which focused on general thoracic surgery and lung transplantation at Barnes Hospital, Washington University in St. Louis. He joined the USC faculty in 1994.
