The Keck School of Medicine-USC Primary Care Physician Assistant Program is seeking a dynamic, motivated, and visionary team leader to fill the position of program director. This is a full time, 12-month position with competitive salary and excellent benefits. The successful candidate will receive a clinical faculty appointment in the Department of Family Medicine, Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California that is appropriate to their level of experience and qualifications.
The USC Primary Care Physician Assistant Program is dedicated to the advancement of physician assistant education and emphasizes service to the medically underserved. The Program is committed to preparing students from a wide variety of backgrounds to practice medicine with the supervision of a physician. Emphasis is placed upon understanding and appreciating diversity. The Program aims to prepare its graduates to practice and promote primary health care of the highest quality as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Since its inception in 1974, The USC Primary Care Physician Assistant Program, now a 33 month, Master of Physician Assistant Practice degree, has a successful history of training and graduating outstanding clinicians who work in a variety of medical care settings with diverse patient populations. Our graduates are trained not only for clinical excellence, but also in the breadth of competencies required to be professional leaders within the rapidly changing medical environments of the 21st century. The program has very strong institutional support, as evidenced by our $1.5 million dollar move into brand new, custom-built teaching space on August 1, 2010.
The program director will provide effective management, supervising the medical director, faculty and staff and will report to the chair of the Department of Family Medicine. He/she is responsible for program organization, administration, fiscal management, continuous review and analysis, planning, development, and participation in the ARC-PA re-accreditation process. The program director will also provide oversight and administration of grants and foster effective educational partnerships between the program, other departments within the Keck School of Medicine and the University, and other health care professionals and local/national organizations. Teaching and clinical practice duties for the program director are negotiable.
Requirements:
Applicants must hold a master’s degree with willingness to pursue a doctorate (completed doctorate preferred), and must be a physician assistant (NCCPA-certified) or physician (board certified in Family Medicine); California licensure or eligibility is required. A minimum of three years clinical experience and prior experience in medical education/ administration is essential. The successful candidate will have an in-depth understanding of the physician assistant profession, role, practice, and educational process as well as strong interpersonal and communication skills.
