The civic center, a sub-region of the city that is home to such places as the Music Center and Federal Courthouse, has the distinction of containing the largest concentration of government employees in the U.S.

Downtown Los Angeles is home to the Fashion and Jewelry Districts, which make for great, affordable shopping destinations. Also, the diverse cultural areas of downtown provide an ideal setting for locating rare and authentic ethnic merchandise.

Just south of downtown lies the main campus of the University of Southern California and Exposition Park—home to the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, the California Science Center, and the Coliseum.
