Simply put, pathology is the branch of medicine that deals with the laboratory study of organs, tissues, cells and bodily fluids. All other USC medical specialties rely on pathology to diagnose and study disease. With more than 90 full-time faculty-physician scientists, the Department of Pathology at the Keck School of Medicine of USC is one of the largest departments of its kind in the United States.
Our specialists provide full clinical and anatomic pathology services for all specialties. We are particularly strong in the following areas:
- Hematopathology
- Immunocytochemistry
- Immunopathology
- Molecular oncology
- Neuropathology
- AIDS-related research
Consultation is provided in all aspects of clinical laboratory practice and in special areas of cytopathology, surgical pathology and electron microscopy. We also provide special diagnostic services in immunohistology, flow cytometry, molecular pathology and fine-needle aspiration biopsy.
Our comprehensive blood bank includes plasmapheresis services and directed self-blood donations.
